Introduction
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the
darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high
places.”
-Paul, Ephesians 6:12
Man, from earliest times, has understood the world from a
dualistic point of view. There is the visible and tangible world that
is detected by sight, sound, hearing, smell and touch. But then man
has curiously always believed in an invisible world that was at
times detectable by these five senses, but usually operated
undetected and hidden from mankind. This dualistic belief has
historically been held by all people in all places at all times. Hence,
we find descriptions of it in ancient Sumerian, Egyptian,
Babylonian, Assyrian, Greek, Roman, Aztec, Mayan and Chinese
literature dating back to the beginning of human writing.
Since the time of the Renaissance many have dismissed the
idea of an invisible world relegating it to the level of naïve
superstition. The incidents that were once thought to have been
caused by unseen spirits began to be explained away by more
“rational” and scientific explanations. As a result a belief in and
desire to understand the role that invisible spiritual beings play in
our world is greatly diminishing. Even Seminaries have begun to
teach that spiritual warfare has no place or purpose in modern
ministry. The Bible says “faith comes by hearing (Rom 10:17)”
and so whatever we hear influences what we believe. If we hear
that demons do not exist, it will influence us to believe that they do
not. On the contrary, if we hear (and read) stories of how
Christians have experienced unclean spirits throughout history it
will build up our faith in the invisible world. That is the purpose of
this book. This book attempts to collect various recorded incidents
in which it is believed that the invisible world momentarily became
visible demonstrating that demons do exist and influence
humanity.
