Announcing the launch of “Stories From The Good News Letter”

I am extremely pleased to announce the launch of the first issue of Stories From The Good News Letter.

These are the stories of ordinary local people who have something in common. They have come to know the love of God in Jesus Christ as their Saviour.

It is my desire that these and subsequent stories of faith in Jesus Christ from local people will serve to inspire. challenge and encourage both Christians, and those yet to be, in Ards & North Down and beyond to realise again and again the awesome goodness of God toward us and be enthused to share thier own stories of faith in God.

Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word. (ESV)

Christianity began as a small movement in a vast, often hostile Roman Empire. How did it grow? What factors contributed to it eventually becoming the dominant religion of the empire? Moreover, what may we learn from them as our culture reverts back to a hostile pagan one? Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones highlights the vital importance of men like Peter, Paul, and the other apostles as they preached the good news around the empire. Interestingly, he notes the role persecution played in the spread of the Gospel. However, Dr. Lloyd-Jones specifically points to the witness and testimony of ordinary members of the Christian church as being a means God regularly uses to spread the truth about Christ. His text is Acts 8:4, but Dr. Lloyd-Jones comments on how often the Holy Spirit uses ordinary Christians to preach the Word. He emphasizes that the spread of the Gospel comes by the preaching of the Word, not just talking about ourselves. We must consider today how God has used ordinary men and women in ordinary conversation preaching the extraordinary message of Christ to evangelize the world. David Gourley at Towerview Church Bangor

It was a privilege and great joy for my family and I to be invited by the Reverend Kathie & Dr Ivan Filby to spend a morning with the family of God who meet at Towerview Church Bangor.

Having the opportunity to share God’s heart and great desire for his children to share their stories of conversion and ongoing stories their lives lived in fellowship with him, our Great God and Saviour Jesus Christ was a wonderful blessing.
